Home Maintenance Tips

Sep 11, 2018

Glorious spring! Doesn’t it always feel like it comes too late? What about spring home maintenance? The term “spring cleaning” is very fitting, since while you were hibernating indoors the yard and exterior of your house have suffered through the winter and now need to be revived. Get yourself outside and start sprucing up your home so that you can begin enjoying the warmer weather and beautiful flowers!

  • Your eavestroughs probably froze a fair amount during the winter, so try to clean them out now as best as you can. Branches may have fallen into them and there may be cracks caused by the drop in temperature. Check your roof over as well.
  • Hopefully any paint on your home has stayed resilient. If not you may need to touch this up a little.
  • Wash all of your windows both inside and out. Over the winter dirt builds up and it doesn’t look pretty.
  • Now is the time to break out your patio furniture and garden decorations again.
  • Get your lawnmower back in shape, and start taking the necessary steps to bring your lawn back to life.
  • Watch for weeds popping up. If you don’t remove them right away they’ll spread over your property faster than you can say “spring flowers.”
  • If you have a sump pump you should take the time to test it out and make sure it still works well.
  • Clean the inside of your house, as your lengthy stay indoors means that a thorough cleaning is in order.
  • Your windows have been closed for a very long time, so on a nice spring day leave them open for a few hours to air out your home.
